I've been using that setup for almost a year now and it's worked great! I have an exercise building outside as well that's about 40ft from my Extreme in the opposite direction of the the Express in my shop. I have a shop outside in the back about 20ft away where I have an Express (Pro Express) plugged in. My Extreme is in my kitchen and sits on an exterior wall. I have an Airport Extreme base station that is essentially used as my "hub" and two Airport Expresses that are my "spokes." I'm running Lion and Airport Utility 6.0.
